V/edding at Napier. A pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Paul s Church on Saturday, when Mr. Williain Fyf?, eldest son o£ the late Mr. Fyfe, of Feathovston, was married to Aliss Elizabeth Jones, third dnughler of Jlr. John Jones of Waikouaiti. The bride ivore a cream silk crystalline dress, with veil and orange blossoms, and tho bridesmaid, Miss H. Young, a cream dress and violet hat. Jlr. J. Bvford was best man,_ and the bride was given away by Mr. V. 11. Park. Tho Rev. Ashcr conducted the marriage service. An "At Home," Yesterday afternoon a Parliamentary "At Home" was given by Lady Ward at Awarua House, and,- in spite of tho stormy weather, quite a large number of guests were present. Quantities of spring (lowers decorated-the rooms, and a string band supplied delightful music. Miss Ilardinge-Maltby also contributed recitations that were greatly enjoyed. Lady Ward was wearing a frock of crimson satin with panels of cream point lace on tho skirt, and an overdress of coronation blue 'ninon, with yoke and sleeves of laco with gold braid. Mrs. Cyril Ward was in pale blue ninou. Fcilding Notes. Mrs. Guthrie has returned from her holiday. Mrs. Hill has returned from Wanganui. Afiss Wheeler's many friends will bo pleased to hear she has v sufficiently recovered from her recent illness to return to her home.
Airs. Lawson has returned from Palmerston.
Aliss Wyaft has returned from Te Kuiti, On Thursday afternoon Airs. Barton gave a moat enjoyable bridge party at her pretty homo in Alonmouth Streef. Among tho guests were Mesdames Willis, Gillespie, Horrocks, Corps, Roberts, Halliday, Clayton, Stewart, Long, Atkinson, Fitzhcrbert, M'Allum, Glasgow, Alontgomcry, Atillar, and Revington-Jones. Airs. Corfo won tho first prize, and Airs. Roberts tho second.
, On Thursday and Friday the bulb showwas held in tho Parish Hall. The entries, although very few, were very good, especially Airs. N. Gorton's collection of bulbs—her "Lucifer" proving champion. Airs. Swainson's decorated mantelpiece quite deserved the prize, and Aliss Lethbridge's bouquet was beautiful. In tho children's classes Helen Vcnnblcs's bowl of, bulbs was beautifully arranged, and Afarion Atkinson's buttonholes were,very dainty. In the evening a most enjoyable concert was given, Mrs. and Aliss Audrey singing n duet, Air. Venables playing a violin solo, Ah'. Simpson a banjo solo, and Air. Davcy gave a song, each item receiving au encore. Afternoon tea and supper were provided by Airs. Tingey and Alisses Hill, Foote, and Haj'bittlc. Among those present wci - e Mesdames Willis, Gillespie, Gorton, Aliles, Audrey, Lawson, Giesen. Lothbridge, Guthrie, Levieu, Long, Richmond! Owen, Walker, Alisses Walker, Roe, Al'Lean, Audrey, Hill, and others.
On Saturday night Airs. Horrocks gave a most enjoyable bridge partv. Among tho guests were Alesdames Willis, Gillespie, Wall, Roberts, Carr, Stewart, Long, Atkinson, Halliday, M'Allum, Alontgomery, Glasgow, Barton, C'orfe, Jones, Alisses Spain. Airs. Long and Airs. Willis won the first and second prizes, and Airs. ALintgomery the "bcoby." A team of golfers camo down friw Wanganui on Saturday to play the Fcilding Golf Clubmen. The local team wero fortunato enough to win. Airs. Tingey and Miss Bailey very kindly provided afternoon tea, which was much appreciated. Kia Ora Centre. On Saturday afternoon, despite the very stormy weather then prevailing, a number of tho members of tho Kia Ora Centre of tho Girls' Realm Guild met at tho secretary's house (Miss Stevens's), and from there made expeditions ■ to several public institutions and distributed spring flowers. Needless to say, the kindly thought was greatly appreciated by the recipients. Several friends of the guild supplied members with Hewers for tho purposo. Stratford Notes. Tho now Parisli Hall was opened on September 13 by Bishop Crossly in tho presence of a large number of parishioners and others. The hall was beautifully decorated with flags, ferns, and quantities of lovely spring flowers, and reflected great credit on those who worked so assiduously to mako tho opening ceremony an unqualified success.
Tho musical programme was much appreciated by tho audience. The opening item was a selection by the Stratford Orchestral ' Society, entitled, "Pique Dame," which was exceedingly well played. A song, "May Dew" was sung by Aliss Butter, AI.A. A duet, "Watchman, What-of-the Night," by Jlessis. Lewis and Wilson was heartily applauded. Song, "The Bandolero," by Mr. Aldridge, was deservedly encored, the encore number being "The Mighty Deep." The quartet, "Stars of the Summer Night," by Messrs. Lewis, Lauder, Wilkie, and WiiK>n, was tho gem of tho evening, and received unstinted applause.'
The second part of the programme was opened by a selection, "Tho Phantom Brigade," by -the Orchestral Society, then followed a duet. "Maying," by' Misses Wilson and G. Black, and a double trio, "Sunset," by Alisses King, Jones, Wilson, G. Black, J. Butler, and Mrs.' AVilkio. A competition followed, "The Fish's Wedding," ■ eausc-d much laughter, and was won by Aliss Nancy Stubbs. Airs. Wilkie secured second prize. Among those present were: Alesdames Raikes, Johnston. Chcucken, Tvrer, Sole, Stubbs, Carey, Fookes, Young, Robson, Arden, Osmond, Porritt, Cardalo, Penn, Black, Crawshaw, King, Twiss, Richards, Misses Butler (2), Worthington, Black (2), Ilicks (2), Reader (2), Johnston (2), ,T. Butler, Aloylo, Sole (2), Henderson (Wanganui), and many others. The Rev. Robt. Hammond, of Sydney, is expected ill Stratford early in' October, and will lecture on "No-Licenso." Maslerion "Savages." A most entertaining "ladies' night" was given in the Exchange Hall, Jlasterton, by the members of the local Savage Club on Saturday evening. The hall had been decorated with palms and flags, and a very large gathering was present. Dr. Cook was "chief savag.e," and a very enjoyable programme of choruses, quartets, solos (pianoforte aud vocal), mono, logues, and recitations was gone through during tho evening. Alost amusing was the musical monologue, "Good Old Alother," contributed by one of tho members dressed most ingeniously and effectively as a very gay old lady, tho verses bringing in local skits. Supper was served in the interval by tho "savages."
Mr. and Airs. J. G. Wilson, of Ra.'ijjitikci, and Aliss Wilson aro visiting Napier.
Miss Phyllis Poison, a pupil of the Napier Girls' High School, has been awarded the prize for a cartoon in tho Coronation year competitions of the Victoria League (Harrow branch), open to junior competitors up to eighteen years of age, residing in British Dominions beyond the seas.
Air. and Airs. Grundy (Wellington) are visiting Jlasterton, and are staying with their daughter, Airs. W. Lamb.
Mrs. Tyleo (Alakuri) is in Alasterton for tho wedding of her niece, which takes place to-day. Airs. Mackay, from Napier, is also down for it.
Aliss Thelma Petersen is giving a concert in Danncvirko shortly.
The art exhibition is to be opened on Saturday afternoon, October 7, by his Excellency tho Governor.
Dr. and Airs. A. Wilson, of Wanganui, aro in town, and aro staying with Airs. W. Kennedy for a few days.
