WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS.
A MISCONCEPTION. The question as to who may tike part in the competition?, to be held nnclor the auspices of the Neiv Zealand Competitions Society has cropped up. An inquiry was made'yesterday on the point, and owing to the'misconception of a telephone communication it was (riven out that all the contests were open to professionals, teachers, and amateurs alike. This, of course, is not so. There are on the syllabus a few contests . which are open to anyone who \vislies to compete, irrespective of their standing, but the great bulk of the competitions are only open to amateurs. The societv's definition of an amateur is one whose' income is not mainly derived from the exercise of his or her talents in the particular section in which he or she may compete. The attention of the public is drawn to an advertisement 'in this issue regarding this mntlsr. Mr. Dykes states that he is prepared to supply nil information respecting the competitions on application by telephone or iettcr.
