SHANNON. At a- meeting of tho Druids' Sports Committe it was decided to hold the sports on the Recreation R<?se:ve on January 22, and to affiliate with the New Zealand Athletic Association. Clayton presided over a good attendance of members of the Debating Soci-oty on Tuesday evening, when the subject on the sylinbus was "Impromptu Speeches." Amount those who took part were Messrs. Clayton, Gunning. Gardiner, Trainer, A. Mitcii»ll. Eastwood, Exall, C. Duncklcy, T. E. M'Millnn, and Murdoch. Mrs. Laurvig. Mrs. Fitchett, Miss Smith, and Miss Wickliffe also took part.

FEATHERSTON. Members of the Skating Club entertained at a social gathering on Tuesday night Miss Ivy Benton and- Miss Alzdorf, who ars leaving Feathersfon shortly. Songs were rendered by Miss J. Brough, Miss Card, and Dr. Palmer. Progressiveeuchre and dancing completed the eveninn's entertainment. Mrs. G. T. Baker, wife of Constable Baker, clerk of the court here, is now improving' in health after a long illness.

GREYTOV/N. Tho Greytown Borough Council held a special meeting on Tuesday evening, wicn it was decided to accept Mr. H. Hunyshire's tender for tho erection of. the Coronation Baths. It. was reported that iihe gas would bo turned on next Saturday, but that the official ouening would take place on Thursday week. The cost of tho plant, elc,• I«is ?: far been .CSSCO, and the Mayor expects that tho other ,£503 of the loan will not be required. There are now 70 consumers of gas connected, or to be connected. A special meeting; of the Mount Hector Track Committee was held on Tuesday evening, tho business being to consider a reply which had been received from the Tourist Department. - After consideration of the letter, it was decided that the secretary should apply to the Featherston County Council for tho ,£IOO grant from the Government, and immediately proceed with the formation of the track, the width of which will probably be eight feet. After some further discussion it appeared to Ik generally understood that the track from Mount Reeves onward should strike down to the base of Tho Cone, and, from there, cross a small tributary of the Taiiherinikau River on to Bull Mound, from whence it would generally follow the ridge in a winding direction to tho top of Mount Hector.
