FORDING THE ELBE. By Telocraph— Press Association—Copyright (Rec. September 13, 10.20 p.m.) Berlin, September 13. A detachment of twenty-five Uhlans, manoeuvring with the Saxon army, whilo out reconnoitring, forded tho Elbe, which was low owing to tho drought. Tho men unexpectedly struck deep holes in the river, and tho horses became restivo and threw their riders. There was soon a struggling mass of men and horses in the water. Tho Uhlans, being weighted with their heavy accoutrements, were unable to swim, and were soon in a perilous plight. Boats hastened to their assistance, and some were restored by means of artificial respiration. Eleven of the men, however, were drowned.
