Mr. Eustace Lane opened his campaign for the Hawke's Bay seat by an address in the Princess Theatre last night. Thoro was a lnrgo attendance. Thus a landowner who had a good year would pay tax that year, but, after a lean season, he would not pay tax. On the liquor question Mr. Lane proclaimed himself in favour of Slate control. I'nrty matters were left alone by tho candidate., but ho severely criticised the land administration of the present Government.
