PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Special Oomspondent.) Palmerston. September 12. Court Manawatu A.O.F. met last evening, Bro. Weir, C.R., presiding. Two candidates were initiated, two joined by clearance, and six new members were proposed. The Woodwards reported that there were very few members on the sick list at present. It was announced that a combined friendly societies'church parade and service would bo held at tho Empire Hall on September 24. Bros. Patten and Rosanowski were appointed canvassers in connection with the shares in the Friendly Societies' Dispensary. The anniversary of tho court falls on October 18, and a committee was set up to mako arrangements to fittingly celebrate tho occasion. C.R. Bro. Weir was appointed to represent this court at the Oddfellows' Lodge anniversary celebrations on September' 22. The Palmerston Municipal Brass Band is arranging to hold a dance in aid of its funds. Members of tho Palmerston Egg Circle met last evening, when it was reported that capital business was being done. Tho price received for eggs during the first four weeks of the circle's existence was 10Jd., which is considerably above the price which hns usually obtained at the same period in previous years. Mr. Louis Seifert has presented the Manawatu Ladies' Golf Club with a junior championship cup. This is to bo competed for by ladies with handicaps over thirty, and is to be played for in three rounds of modal play over the junior course. The best aggregate score holds the trophy for the year. With the object of raising .£3OO, tho local corps of the Salvation Army organised a Swiss fair, which was opened bv the Mayor Inst evening. A concert programme was given, and the fair proved a success, both socially and financially. Judgment was read to-day in tho action Candy v. liatchclar, a claim for specific performance. Defendant was successful, and was allowed costs as an a claim for ii7oo, and witnesses' expenses. Mr. A. Thomson, S.M., also gave reserved judgment in tho case in which Idolphus Oxiey sued George Craw, flaxiniller, of Linton, for .£ll4 damages for alleged wrongful termination of a cooking contract. Judgment was for defendant, with costs JIG 15s. 0(1. In a Magistrate's Court case heard today, Henry Gray, of Wanganui, and formerly of Linton, proceeded against Harry Gunter, musterer, for the return of a sheep dog, of which plaintiff claimed possesion, and which (it was alleged) defendant had detained since February 21. In tho alternative he sued for its value, £20. Mr. Bngnair appeared for plaintiff. Defendant was represented by Mr. Moore. The magistrate- mado an order for tho dog's return or its value (d£2o), with costs totalling .£B. „ A man named John Cowan was fined £i aml'£l Is. medical Aponsos for resisting f.nd assaulting ft policeman who was arresting him for month s imprisonment was the alternative.
