Although on "January 1, 1911, there wcro 133,157 insane persons under care in England and Wales—an increase of 2G04 on tho previous year—the Commissioners point out that "the increase in the number of tho insane recorded year by year is no proof of an actual growth of insanity in the community." They add that "if insanity is increasing it is doing so very slowly. The ago distribution of insanity is as fellows:— Ago Percent. Age Percent. tinder 25 13.1 45-51 16.5 25-31 21.7 55-6-1 13.0 35— U 21.7 05 and over... 12.0 Three chief causes of insanity arc- referred to hcreditv, alcoholism, and mental stress.
