CREAMERY MARKETS EGGS.

.' A VALUABLE SIDELINE. A ; creamery in ■ Northern Minnesota has inaugurated a system, of marketing the egga of its.dairy patrons. As the farmers make frequent and'TCgular trips to the creamery, it is found that their eggs can bo handled very advantageously, and that they can bo put on the market while fresh. ■ At present about 135 farmers are disposing of their eggs through this creamery. They pledge themselves to deliver eggs to tho creamery that are less than eight days old/having been-gathered twice a day.'-The eggs are to bo uniform in size, clean, assorted, and marked as to colour and kept in a cool dry cellar while at the farm. The creamery trademark is stamped on tho side of each egg and-on top of each carton. The stamp issued to' each patron contains, besides tho 'creamery name and brand, the serial number, of the producer, so that any complaint about the eggs can bo readily lodged against tho farm ' from which they came. • ■Tho'.eggs ara packed 1 at tho farm in onedozen size pasteboard'egg boxes, or cartons, which are so'shaped that they may be packed-in a regular 30-dozen egg ease. As the eggs are gathered .each day, the clean, good-sized eggs are stamped and placed in them. When a carton is filled it is stamped on its upper side just tho fame as the eggs.. When the'farmer-comes in to the creamery with his milk or cream he brings along, as many cartons or doz- ■ ens of eggs as ho has. The man in charge of the creamery takes these eggs, examines tho packages, and gives the farmer a check • for tho ■ eggs delivered that day. The cartons aro theu packed in substantial returnable 30-dozen egg cases and skipprd to market by express. Tho shipping charges are paid by tho consignee. The labour and co-i of handling the eggs at the-creamery arc thus reduced to'a minim nm. Reliance is placed on tho farmer to bring in gocd eggs. The farmer in turn feels bound to b? particular,' knowing that any carelessness can bo traced- back to him, and realising that he thus jeopardises bis chances-of continuing, to dispose of. his eggs in this manner.
