DRIVERS' UNION.
Tho annual conference ef the New Zealand Drivers' Union was opened in tho Wellington Drivers' Union oluces, Grey Street, last uignt. Present: Messrs. J. Sutherland, A. Dilioll, F. Dwycr, and D. ..black tWellington), J. Davis (Auckland), G. Inglis (Gisljorue), J. Barr and W. Stewart (Duuedin), J. Robertson (Palmerstou North;, H. Hunter and J. Lyuvss (Cnristchureh). Tho president (M. J. Sutherland) extended a welcome to delegates. It was .decided to hold tho next conference at Cnristchureh, and Messrs.' J. Lyness and 11. Hunter wcro elected president and secretary respectively. Messrs. 11. Hunter and G. Davies reported that (hey had waited upon tho Waterside Workers' Conference, held at Auckland, and had suggested that that conference should appoint representatives to meet tho Drivers' Union with a viewto bringing about a Transport Workers' Federation. Tho Waterside Workers had adopted the suggestion, and two representatives had been appointed to act on its behalf. The question of how many hours a week should drivers work came, up before the conference. Tho Arbitration Court award specifics that i"\ hours, exclusive of attendance on horses, shall constitute a week's work, but it was explained that attendance shall bo included in (ho 47J from lon to thirty hours weekly. It was stated that it has been the aim of tho Drivers' Union in the pa«t that stable attendance shall bo included in hours specified in the award, as members consider that they should be put on tho same footing as tradesmen, mid are now apparently resolved to contest this matter.
