POWELKA.
POLICE IN FORCE NEAR MOKAU. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) Auckland, September 7. There is now little doubt that the presence of a large number of police in the Mokau County is duo to (he possibility of Powelka having come that way. A fairly largo area of country is being scoured, and the reason for this sudden invasion of the district by Hie police was due (o information received from a man working on Mount Messenger, who, it is said, know Powelka previously. This man stated that Powelka was going in the direction of Mokau, and a man resembling Powelka was interviewed at Awuluno without result. The police, however, arc said to still hnvo every reason to believe in tbo accuracy of' the roadman's report, as a strange man is raid to be lurking round the bush camps up the Mokau Kivor. Much of the country in Hie Mokau disIrict is in a wild state, and, once a livo gets in (here, some difficulty will naturally be experienced in hunting him down.
