The Hon. Sir William Hall-Jones, K.C.M.G., is gazetted to be High Commissioner for New Zealand from September 1 to December 31. Mr. Jackson Palmer, Chief Judge of the New Zealand Kativo Land Court, has arrived at I'remantle from Engiwud by ■ tho Orontes.—Press Association. Mr. James Russell, tho well-known builder and contractor, is seriously indisposed. Ths Rev. Mr. Taylor, secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, is a passenger from Sydney by the Maheno, for Auckland.—Press Association. . Mr. William Walton, son of one of the oldest residents of Greymouth, is dead, acred 18 years. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the temperance cause, and also an ardent cricketer, having been secretary of the West' Coast Association since its'inception. The cause of death was blood poisoning, followed by pneumonia and bronchitis.—Press Association. Tho Hon. T. Mackenzie has besn advised by cablegram that his son, Dr. Kenneth Mackenzie, who recently stood for his M.D. ■ degree at Edinburgh, was awarded the gold medal for his thesis on original research. Ilis subject was "The Mammary Gland," and it is understood that ho has made important discoveries in .that, connection. .' , '. „.iMr. Charles do Tinseau, a French journalist, who is making a tour of the world gathering information of a social, political, geographical, and religious 11aturo for the clerical paper "La Croix," resumed his journey to Monto Video yesterday, sailing from Wellington by the Arawa. Many will regret to learn of the death of Mr. Arthur Flimmer, second son of Mr. John A. Plimnier, and a brother of Mr. W. 11. Plimmer,- of Wellington, which occurred at his father's residence, Khandnllah, at 4.15 last evening. Tho deceased, who was a native of Wellington, was educated at the Terrace School and tho Wellington College. After leaving school ho went into the insurance business in Wellington, and rose rapidly until ho was transferred to the Melbourne ofiico of tho National Insurance Company of New Zealand in a responsible position. From there he was promoted to be manager at Perth, Western Australia. He developed heart trouble some time ago, and despite everything that could possibly be done became gradually worse. Last year he took a trip to England, with iittle or no benefit, and a month ago returned to Wellington. He leaves a wife (a daughter of Mrs. Townsend, of Roxburgh Street), and five children. Mr. John P. Terry has been appointed an inspector under the Public Health Act. and an officer under the Sale of Food and Drugs Act. Mr. William Skinner has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands for Marlborough, vice Mr. T. S. Smith, retired. Mr. Charles Parker is gazetted to bo gaoler at Gisborne. Mr. R. P. Grevillo has been appointed chief computer and inspecting surveyor in the District Lands Office, 'Wellington. Mr. John Jackson has been appointed inspector of scaffolding for tho Westland. distiict, and Mr. H. E. Moston for tho provincial districts of Wellington and Taranaki.
