(Br Telegraph!— Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, September 7. At tho annual meeting of the Wanganui Tenuis Association, tho report disclosed a very satisfactory year's work. As a result the standard of local playhad been considerably raised. The bal-ance-sheet showed cash in hand .£l2 and assets amounting to .£3O. Officers elected: —Patron, Mr. C. C. Hutton; president, Mr. C. M. Sh-outs; secretary, Mr. G. H. Pownal; vice-president of New Zealand Association, Mr. C. C. Hutton; delegates to New Zealand Association, Messrs. J. M'C'aul, Praser, M'Nichol, and Jeffries. A resolution was passed recommending the incoming committee to do everything possible to promoto tennis among the children of the schools. In response to the Defenco Department's ref]iiest, tho Gonville Town Board decided to do all in its power to assist defence training in tho way of placing halls, etc., nt the disposal of the military authorities as soon as the requirements of the latter ore made known. Indication of the continued progress of Gonville is contained in a statement mnO.o by the chairman of the Town Board last night to the effect that, since tho last valuation four years ago, Ihe values had so increased that, if they were readjusted now, it would mean an increase of 25 per cent, in the board's revenue.
