Included in tlio matters reported on by tho Inspector of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was reference to one of the effects of (ho dry season experienced in Canterbury. He reported that complaints v.ero reaching him as to (ho deplorable stnto of stock, particularly of sheep,, in various farmill!; districts. One case just reported to him was •evidently ono of starvation. Somo hundreds of sheep wero seen to bo in a'dying state between Dunsandel and Ilororata. A largo number wero already dead. There was not a vestige of feed available, and witnesses described tbo scene as horrible in the extreme. 'With another officer of the society, the inspector intends visiting tlio district mentioned to get expert evidence as to the exact cause of the death of these sheep.
