INCKEASE IN WOBKING EXPENSES. A rct'ttrn of receipts and expenditure on tho working o£ the City Tramways and Power Supply Departments for tho four-weekly period ended August 18 allows that tho number of passengers carried for the four weeks amounted to 1,751,757, an increase of 130,233. The total passL'iiffcrs carried to date amount to 5,653,G52, or 618,175 more than last year. Tho working expenses over tho whole system average this year lO.lTd. per cah mile, as against 9.8Ud., an increase of .31d. Tho gross revenue for the four weeks shows an increase, of JLB-IG, ami tho working expenses an increase of JC49B, as compared with tho corresponding period of last year. The total results to date show an increase,in the gross revenue of J139-IG, arid' 'in tho working expenses of JE1829. After allowing for estimated capital charged, there is left a credit balance to date 'of .CIG3S, as compared with JCNi last year.' . . Tho revenue from the sab of current for the four weeks shows a decrease of .£lB, and tho working expenses a docrease of .£52. After allowing for capital charges there, is left a credit balance to date of .£35!), as against a credit balance of .£l3l last year. The net result to date- on tho combined accounts is a credit balance of .£1997, being an increase, of .CIS4G over last year. From this r.mount appropriations amount, ing to .tlKil, covorinsf special expend itui'o on conversion of box cars, etc., will bo made, leaving a net credit balance to revenuo account of ,£s37.
