MILITARY RULE.
Sir,—ln your • issue of this morning, "Hibernian," in a letter under tho heading of Sir Joseph Ward's change of front, says: "The Apostle teaches obodienco to the law, and the King," but ho conveniently forgets "Xovo all men. Thou shalt not kill," etc. There is-no reason why our lads should bo compelled to do military training, for if our volunteers were treated like men there be no need for conscription in New Zealand. I am said to be very hard on iny dogs, and I admit it, but I never treated a dog half as badly as I havo been treated when a soldier. 1 have served years.ina mounted corps, and soon active service in South Africa, and it has taught me that ono cannot'-boa soldier and bo a man, as a soldier must bo' able to stand to attention, and bo cursed and sworn at-for nothing by- a fo-ealled superior, without '■■ moving a muscle of his face. Can one do this and be a man ? I see some of tho ' boys ore crying, about convict crops, but '. if they only knew what is m store for ' them later on they -would not worry ' about such trifles.—l am, etc., , . ANTI-CONSCIUPTIONIST.
