COUNTRY RACING CLUBS.
Sir,—ln reading your report of the treatment meted out to country racing clubs jy the Racing Commission, I was rather struck bv the. remarks of Mr. R. A. Wright, 4f.r. for Wellington South. Evidently Mr.. Wright was referring to his own politicnl career at the next general election when he said that country clubs should realise that they were dead, and someone should .plant flowers on _ their graves, and then let them rest. Now, I should like to ask Mr. Wright what lie knows about country racing clubs, which are chiefly comprised of iifcm With small moans, and who for a day's sport, go to a lot of trouble, as they cannot afford to. take their wives and family.to tho cities and stay at hotels. Nor can the working man afford to lose t. couple of days, beside paying train fares, etc., for their day's outing.. Sir. I think lam quite right in nssuming that Mr. Wright must sny something in tlie House in return for his .£3OO a year, whether ho knows anything ho is talking about or not. I can tell' Mr. Wright'that country racing clubs have good grounds to complain, and they will make themselves'fclt, as well as being heard. Another thing I would like to draw your readers' attention to is Mr.Wright's statement about Press Association messages, viz.: What could be fairer than the report sent out about the meeting held in the Town Hall by the Leader of the Opposition, when, as your paper (The Dominion) stated there were between two thousand and three thousand present. Does Mr. Wright, or anyone else (when they know the population of Wellington) .thiiik that a resolution passed by them (say nothing about the silent vote) in the hail should be flaunted through the Dominion? No doubt Sir. Wright was there, and licnco his disappointment against the Government. Why, Mr. Editor, I have bean in tho hall when nearly double of tho above number were present to listen to a candidate addressing the electors. In conclusion, I could mention a number, of random statements, bul don't want to take up so much of your valuable space. —I am, etc., A LOVER OF SPORT.
