NEW ZEALAND JOCKEYS. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Melbourne, September 4. New Zealand jockeys filled three- places at tbo V.A.T.C races. In the Waniston Welter Gray rode Silver Bullet, Cairns Idealism, and Browue Camballo. NOTES AND COMMENTS. [Br Glekcob.] Jockeys from France were strongly represented at Goodwood in July,. Stern, U'Neill, and Sharp were all ruling at the meeting named. The latest English exportation to the Argentine is Your Majesty (by PJrsunmon), who won the Leger in 1908, and wlio'c total earnings oil the track amounted to over .£22,01)0. i G. Price is taking Bronze and Kilosten to the Mai-ton meeting: The former is reported backward in condition, but if lulosleri has gone on the right way since Trenthain he should be prominent in the decision of the big event. Acceptances for tho Dannevirko Racing Club's meeting close on Friday next. Tho running in tho Handicap at Wanganui on the second uay ot tho ii-ieetini; should throw some light on tlio New Zealand Cup problem,, as amongst the nominations are Montiform, Miscount, •Jlulga Bill, Shuja, Goodwin Park, Boanerges, Kilosteri, Kauro-i, and Projectile. All of these have had their >iew Zealand Cup engagement continued. The new owner of Kopaue was in Wellington on Friday last. He informed the writer that the Sir Laddo geldmg would make his next appearance at Otaki on September 23. Tho Winter Cup winner Undecided is to make his next public appearance at Otaki, providing that the opinion of the handicapper coincides with that held by tho owner. Mr. W. Smart is now negotiarin? with the Martinborough owner, Mr. Jackfon, to leafo the chestnut filly Princess Knight, by Knight Errant. A noticeable fact in connection with the Sir Laddo youugsters is that they ■are all notoriously slow away from tho barrier, while in their track work when given a moving start they usually accomplish something good. •. Several instances are available in support of this statement. Sit Knox bents everything thai lie with at Opaki. while at lordell Ladrono used to do similarly. But everyone knows what a failure ho was on race days. Master Laddb was another horse that was generally last away in his races. Ths Achilles-Mar-:eillaiso filly, -purchased by Mr. J. W. Lowe at the \Vaikanao sale in January last, was going on well in her preparation at Trentham, but at the end of last week she got cast in her Iwx, and α-t nresont she carries a badlv enlarged hock. It has been necessary" to stop her in her work, and she is to be given a dose of physic. As tlio lilly was fairly well forward, it may be that she will get over this trouble in time to r'aco in the Wellesley Slakes. In local sporting circles the one and onlv topic of conversation is tho defeat of "Soultiform. A cable received at Palmerston North on Saturday contained Hie one word •'unlucky." So vlien tbo files arrive by mail we will almost- surely find that' something untoward happened at a critical part of the race. In a trial event such as this -it is quite easy to run up against a very fine performer, and of course time may show that Soultiform s people were unlucky enough to do that.

K. H(itch returned frnm Christclnircli nu Sunday morning. Jlc will be riding j nt the Marlon meeting, and then returns i youth to fulfil engagements at Asliburton | during tlii! wool; iollmviiii;. ] 51 r. I"). Proper left for Riccsirton by lasl night's boat to bring back Dearest io Ihe l'orirun stable.-:. It will l>o remembered that Hie brown mart' , contracted strKiiKlos on the eve of tho Winter Cup, and Iml to be left behind, when other member? ot tho Irani returned home. The veteriniir.v surgpnn in whose care slie was left luis i!«w reported that Aw is fit to return home. Thn New Zealand Cup candidate, Lα bour Day, whei was given a run at I lie Wangaiiui Jlinit Club's nicotine, may shape prominently in Iho Maiden Race at Marlon, to-morrow. She is owned by Mr. ,). Dalton, of Waverley, whoso colours wore, formerly carrinl by Auratus, Romany King, and others. Chaiivelin (Soult—lnamorata), who recently got on the winning list in Victoria, followed up his Bendigo victory by annexing a race at Modjioo Valley during the following week. J. C.oiniicst is coming from Auckland to ride Mihlura at the Marlon meeting to-morrow and Thursday. On Thursday next the Ascot Heightclass Thousand will be run in Melbourne. Masonic (Kileheran—Purity), who is top weight and favourite, will bo ridden by N. D. Godby, who is showing great form in the saddle at the present time. W. 11. M'Lachlau, the Sydney jockey, who arrived back from England a fortnight ago, considers that F. Wootton and D. Jlaher are far ahead of any of tho other jockeys at present riding in England on the flat, Jlaher showing to great advantage on the straight courses. Unlike Australian courses, those of England vary considerably, and it takes a stranger some time to become accustomed to them. M'Lachlan expressed the opinion that the English sprinters aro superior to ours, but questions their ability as stayers when compared with the best of Australia, and states that they will not stand riding out at the finish of their races like the pick of the Australian horses. An Auckland writer states that a member of the Auckland Racing Club Committee, intends bringing forward a motion to tho effect that tho horses are not to be sent out of tho until the bell closing the totalisator has ceased ringing. The writer goes on to say that.the motion, if carried, would bo tho most forward step yet taken by the Auckland Club, and would be greatly appreciated by owners, trainers, and riders. - C. Emerson will ride Kilosteri in the Marton Handicap at Marton to-morrow. J. M'Lean. who usually does the lightweight riding for the Highdon stable, has not yet returned from Australia. The ex-New Zealander, Waiata, is now competing in hurdle races in Victoria. The following interesting paragraph appears in the Sydney "Hcl'oree" from the Forth correspondent:—"lt is probable that the case in which Jos. Trenoweih, the well-known, jockey, applied for an interlocutory injunction against the chairman of the W.A.T.C. to restrain him from further enforcing a disqualification of two years imposed upon him by tho W.A.T.C. stipendiary stewards nt Kal T goorlie in June last, will bo reheard by tho Full Court. Mr. Justice Rooth heard tho case and reserved judgment. The main point relied on by the plaintiff was that the W.A.T.C. hail no power to delegate tho right to disqualify to stipendiary stowards. Tho case, is creating a lot of interest in turf circles, as should the verdict go against the W.A.T.C. it will mean an overhauling and revision of tho rules and tho constitution of the club," FIXTURES.
