ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
THROWN FROM A PONT.' (By Telegraph— Press Association.) Hawera, September 1. While riding home from school on Monday, the two children of Mr. Lovell, aged eight years and five years, ware thrown from a pony, which bolted. Both received injuries to thoir heads. The younger boy became worso on Wednesday, was operated on the same 'evening, and died this morning. Tho elder child is progressing satisfactorily. . A DISTRESSING ACT. Auckland, September 1. 1 A child named Irene Dulcib M'Cabe died at the Hospital as the result of scalds. The mother stated at the inquest that she was lifting a pot of boiling soup off tho fire and accidentally spilt some on the baby, who was playing with a top on the floor. HAD GROWN ECCENTRIC. Christchurch, September 1. Andrew Todd, aged 71, committed suicide in the city this morning. His behaviour had previously been peculiar, and a> doctor was called in. The doctor went away to make arrangements to have the man transferred to a mental hospital, and, returning, found that Todd had hanged himself.
