HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Lower Hutt Borough Council held their fortnightly meeting on Monday night. Those present were the Mayor (Uγ.. B. P. Bunny) and Councillors Roots, Knight, Clendon, Ball, Kempthorne, Hobbs, Hodgiiis, and Stephenson. In reply to the Hutt Tramway Beard's proposal to compromise the sum of ,£97 lls. 9d. (outstanding rates) on a 10s. in tho £1 basis, it was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Hodgins, that tho proposal be accepted,' provided that Petone did likewise.
Mr. Bolcher complained of a drain in the Gully Road to Noruiandale.—Referred to tho engineer. ■ In reference to the question of fire exits in the Wesleyan Schoolroom, tho Rev. Mr. Barton-Ginger stated that the. alterations, as laid down by the council, would Iμ placed before the trustees at an early date, and further stated that an application for a license would be applied for when the alterations had been given effect to.—Received.
Tho ATestland Timber Company inquired as to whether it would bo possible for them to instal a two-inch stand pipe with screw valve, and, if so, what restrictions would apply. The service would be required for firo prevention exclusively. The engineer pointed out that there would be no check oa the water used. It mis resolved that, subject to the council having the right to instal a. meter in the future, tho application be granted.
Mr. Callender forwarded a. notice received by him from tho Inspector of Noxious Weeds, requesting him to have tho weed known as "biaokberry" cleared from the land occupied by him at Western nutt. It was explained that the area was about 2\ acres. It was decided to hand the matter over to a committed consisting of tho Mayor and Councillors Bali and Clendon; with power to act.
A petition, signed by four ratepayers of Knight's Road,, drew attention io the way ■in which horses (on their way to tho paddocks) were driven down the road. They held that it was a danger to young children.—On the motion of Uie Mayor, it was decided to refer the letter to iho ranger-to hand on to tho Works Committee.
Tho engineer reported that, to date, 49S yards of gravel had been crushed, spread, and Tolled nt a total labour cost of /£9S 10s. Id. Good progress was being mado with tho eastern drainage section (2). About 50 chains of Gin. pipes now remain to bo done, and 35 chains of house connection. The flushing of the new sowers was proceeding in Bpllevue Road, 31oomfiold Terrace, Bloomfield Crescent, and Huia and Myrtlo Streets. Tho filling in of the deoression in Woburn Road will ho h'uished early next week. Certain additions to Dr. Miram s residence'had now been completed. In reference to tho surfaco drainage of King's Road School, the report stated that the cost of clearing tho dram would be about .£5. One connection had been raadd with fho gas main, and thirteen with the water mains. Tho engineer's estimate for the preparation of a cycle track on Road was passed over. No motion was forthcoming.
