N.S. WALES PROSPECTS.
THE DEOUGHT BROKEN
Up io the end of last week, when heavy rains were recorded, New South. "Wale's was suffering severely from 'drought, and the seriousness of the position is shown by late files. Unless a good -fall of rain cor.ms within the next couple of weeks, says one writer, not only will crops be in great danger of being lost, but stock will havo to be shifted or hand-fed. As it is in some localities there has been a considerable death roll amongst sheep, and it is feared a lot.of the wheat crop sown will never mature. It is reported particularly dry in the north-west and also in .the BarrabarManilla districts. Dry e.irjditions arc also prevailing in parts of Queensland, and altogether tho approach of summer is causing much anxiety.
Another report .states, that at Bucca Creek, on the North Co&st, the past winter has been tho severest experienced for tha past fifteen years. Dry weather, accompanied by exceptionally heavy, frosts, has seriously, affected the growth of herbage. / Very' few dairymen, had made the necessary provision for winter feed, and as a consequence stock have, suffered and the ■inilk.supplies been materially reduced. Several dairymen havo recently sold out their dairy "herds awl invested in timber trucks and bullock teams, tho present high prices ruling timber hauling is proving the most remunerative occupation. It will be seen that the few lines cabled about the wc-lcomo rains will mean a great deal to New South Wales farmers.
