SHEARERS' ACCOMMODATION
"A RIDICULOUS BILL." A strong criticism of the Shearers' Accommodation Bill has been placed on record by Air. I". Ci. Horrell, chairman of tlio Canterbury Provincial Executive, of the Farmers' Union. In it letter read at a recent meeting of.the union Mr. Horrell expressed, the "opinion that tiie Bill was a burlesque. It said that no pinery should be within fourteen or fifteen chains of llw accommodation. It did not fay "pissty," so the clause would have the effect of compiling farmers- forgive up keeping pigs. .. .Mr. ai'Larcn w6ul'd • then howl about tho price of bacoii. There was also a'provision that the employers should keep the men's quarters clean and healthy. He favoured tho men being provided with tho best of food and accommodation, but he would not. send female, employees into their sleeping quarters. The provision in regard to the distance of latrines' from the sleeping quarters whs also ridiculous. The Bill, as a whole, he concluded, was such a ridiculous one that, it was not worth wasting time on.
