ADDRESS BY MR. D. M'LAREN.
Mr. D. MTarcn, M.P. for Wellington East, addressed a number of electors in the New Century Hall lost night, and received a patient hearing. He announced his intention of conducting his election, campaign without resorting to personalities, but declared that ho would take steps to defend his political character if it were assailed by inmmedo, false statoni*nt, or malicious suggestion. Ho advocated a rimplo reform of the Banking Act to provide for business being done through the Post Office Savings Hank by means of cheques, as nn alteration in that direction would bo of considerable advantage to many peoplo in a small way of business. Other reforms nrgod were tho establishment of invalidity pensions, and a Widows' and Orphans' State Benefit Fund. Mr. Sl'Laren also touched on tho question of land settlement and oducatiou, and nationalisation of monopolies..
At the conclusion of the address a committee was formed. To-night Mr. M'Laren will speak at tho pavilion, Hataitai.
