THE SOP FOR WANGANUI.
« STATE WILL NOW PAY A GRADES. (By Telegraph.-Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, August 2G. Tho Wanganui Caledonian Society's annual banquet was held last evening, and passed off successfully. It was attended bv the ' Hon. Thomas Mackenzie and Mr.' Craigie, M.P.. There was nothin" of much note in tho Minister s spcccli, which was mainly ft series ot complaints regarding Opposition attacks on tlio Government, and a culogj ot Ministerial virtue.?. Locally, the only an--11011 ncement of interest, was that tho Oovermnonfc had decided to pay the salary ,of the dairy produce grader lor \Yan»anui, which it had previously declined to do, leaving suck payment to tho dairy proprietors of tho district. This : is strongly commented on by today's "Chronicle," which, after pointing out the near approach of the genera.! election, describes tho Ministerial decision at such a juncture as a bribe to Wtir nganui.
