MIRAMAR AREA BY-LAW.

« , A DEPUTATION. A matter which has a slight bearing on town-planning in tho abstract camo up for consideration at a special meeting of tho Mirnmar Borough Council yesterday. Under tho borough by-laws each section to bo built on must have a minimum frontage of tOft., oud a minimum aroa of an eighth of an aero. It appears that when Seatoun was originally ' ai( ' ou * tne owners of two sections were cut off. These have a frontago of GGft. by another frontago of 165 ft., without deducting thfl corner, but in tho curtailment they have been reduced in tho aggregate by some perches less than half an aero. The owners of these sections now desire the council to waivo tho by-law in respect of theso sections, in order to permit buildings to bo erected on each of the sections (now slightly less than an eighth of an aero each in area), and have pointed out that tho caso is an exceptional ono, and that thcro is araplo provision for air space. At yesterday's meeting a deputation of half a dozen residents, introduced by Mr, J. P. Luke, M.P., took objection to this course. Mr. Luko said it was rather unfortuuato when the broader spirit of town', planning was at work that tho tendency to crib, cabin, and confino people by allowing by-laws which did not fix an area any too largo to be waived, It was not right to try and please the minority at tho oxpeuse of tho majority. Tho Mayor said that if the deputation carried its sentiments in the matter to su'ch an extreme it would he impossible for a man of small means to live at Seatoun. A section at .£3OO and a house at -CSOO wore boyond tho means of tho ordinary man. At tho same time ho assured tho deputation that ho had not tho slightest intention of allowing the relaxation of tho bylaws anywhere else. After tho deputation liad withdrawn it was decided to postpone consideration of tho matter for a, fortnight. In the meantinio tho council will liear what, the owners have, to say and will consult the borough solicitor.
