Tho annual meeting of the .EgmontWanganui Hunt Club took place on the Wanganui. racecourse yesterday afternoon. The races wore held on No. 1 grass gallop, and some useful horses were seen out. There was a goad attendance of tho general public, and fine weather prevailed. One and all apparently enjoyed themselves. There was no rushing and running about seeking tips, ar.id tlis meeting was, in consequence, of a much quieter description than the usual raco gatherings. No one wanted to know which horse would win, for they could not bet. This was the first meeting held at Wnnganui since tho bookmakers were abolished, but it was a success in every way, and there is no need for apprehension tha't tho club will become extinct. Though there were seven horses carded for the Hack Hurdles, various causes narrowed the field down to a brace of runners. The well-performed Ambergris, with the local rider Coleman in the saddle, won all the way. Mitehau fell, but beyond a shaking his rider was unhurt. The winner jumped very big, and will require a lot of racing beforo he is in the. first flight of hack-hurdle horses. _ Six runners took part in tho Ladies' Necklace. Kaipara was out in front seven fmlongs from home and jumped beautifully, but ho look off too far from the honcoop, and, turning a somersault, broke his back, and had to bo destroyed.Laatofos (A. Gordon) won very easily from Tolstoi and Myra. Outside the winner and Kaipara, the field was very
easily disposed of the seven- other runners in tho First Hack Race. He began first, and led all the way. Lady Mildred did not begin well, but she finished most gamely, and, in another stride, would have been second. Maori Maid, who had a good private reputation, was never in the hunt. Four Tiorses weighed out for tho Huntors' Hurdles, but one of them—Cannon-shot-did not arrive at tho post in time, arid tho others were dispatched without him. Wisdom led from Whimper for a mile, but then the latter took charge, and won easily. Nescot the only other runner, is a big chestnut gelding, standing over 17 hands. Ho is not nearly ready yet, but looks like turning out a useful horse.
Taft carried list. 01b. in the second hack race, in which the presence of two New Zealand Cup candidates—Lady Jean and Labour Day—lent additional interest. The former is a neat, compact mare, and a beautiful mover. Labour Day, though not nearly ready, is tho makings of a good horse, and should be heard of very soon. Tho Waverley horse was slow to begin, but made up a lot of ground across the bottom end. Entering the straight she was carried out very wide, but then finished full of running, and was only beaten by a head by Taft, who was in command the whole way. Lady Mildred was a pcor third. There were only two runners in Hie Hunt Club Cup, but the pair furnished the crowd with plenty of excitement. They raced together for a mile and a half, both jumping splendidly. -At the honcoop, at the top of the course, Cavil fell, but was quickly remounted, and set out after Moonlight. The Intter, however, had Ihcn too big a break, and won easily- Both riders were loudly cheered on returning to scale.- After the race the rider of tho winner (Mr. E. Fitzgerald) was presented with a gold medal donated by Mr. William Brewer, president of the club.
There were seven runners in tho Ladies' Bracelet, which proved to be Hie best of good things for Whimper, who thus equalled the performance of Taft by winning a double.

HUTT VALLEY TBOTTING CLUB. The annual meeting of tho Hutt Valley Trotting Club was held last night. There was a good attendance, and Air. U. J, Palmer occupied tho chair. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Tho balanee-shcut showed, items as lollow:—Receipts, AIIIG Is. 9d.; expenditure, JtBBB Is. dd.; credit balance, J228 os. 5d.; assets, .£253 os. 5d.; liabilities, nil. The balance this year is in, excess of that of last .year to the extent of £78 9s. od. The report stated that tho meetings wcro again appreciated by tho public, and, on every occasion, the Eport was really good, whilo the turnover from every source showed improvement. Unfortunately, on.the evo of prosperity, the Raciriß Commission had used their pruning knifo, and had cut tho club down to one day's rocinfj, which was a very serious matter for the club. The finding of tho Commission was probably duo to the fact thatno representative was present when the Commissioners inspected the track, which inspection was carried out under adverse 'circumstances. It was quite possible thai the Commission had been under the im< preesion that tho meetings were conducted in winter instead of early in January. Tho club wished to specially thank tho president (Mr. Samuel) for his donation, and energy; Mr. Burridgo, hon. starter, all tho vice-presidents, and members who assisted at (ho annual fixture. Stewards wero elected for the ensuing fpason as follow:—Messrs. A. Samuel. J. Sharpc, James Sharpo, H. Craig, H. Palmer. J. Elvines, J. Marks. J. Edwards, H. Edwards, 0. Upton, R. Quinn, J. Aueust, H, Ryder, F. M'Parland, and G. Ilublitz. Tho election of other officers was deferred until a later date. Tho secretary, Mr. R. W. Short, was voted a bonus for his pervices.
