Reporting to the City Council last evening on the suggestion put forward by Jlr. Joseph Ellis, of the Wellington Technical School, that the Queen's Stntuo now bcing re-erected -in Kent Terrace- should be raised a few feet, tho City Engineer stated that tho most satisfactory mot hod of proceeding would be lo form a small mound or plateau, with steps leading up to it. The sides of the mound would bo covered with turf or sods, and a small kerbing placed ronml tho bottom edge. A possible objection to such .1 scheme- would bo tho obstruction caused to pedestrian frame along the centre of th? ressrvc. Trouble, would bo oxporienend in preserving tho nrn'i- sides of the bank, but tho sclumiui would bo an clTective method of raising the statuo, .and then only 5 feet would bo gained in height. The estimated additional cost would bo .£3OO, if stono step_s and kerbing wero provided, and dCISO if concrete steps and kerbiug woro used. Tie r.esort was laid c-a the tablo.
