TROUT-PISHING AT TAUPO. At Hie Acclimatisation Societies' Conference hold yesterday it was proposed in a remit that the trout ssason be extended to May 15. Tho proposal met with an extremely coo! reception, even the mover giving it'out that he disapproved of-it. In- speaking to tho motion, Mr. C. A. Whitney, of Auckland, who was elso strongly opposed to the motion, said that one man had boasted that he had feourcd five tons to his one rod in May. At Taupo (which was in tho Govern-, nifni district, ;tml not controlled by any Acclimatisation' Society) a man could take a ton of fish a dny if he set himself out to do it. Ths 201b. per day limit did not operate in the Taupn-Rotoriin district. Other speakers called ths wholesale capture of tho trout at Taupo "butchery." and instances wot? given of enormous catches for which thero wero no means of Roiivuniption. The remit was thrown out on the voices.
