A Press Association message rccoivtd from Christchlircll ' last' evening stated that "it is understood (hat tho Defence authorities have receivt-d instructions from Wellington not to proceed for the time being with any further prosocutions of those who have failed to register in accordance with the terms of tho new Defence Act." i In reply to a question referring to tho above telegram, (ha General Officer Commanding th'e Forces (Major-General A. .T. Godley, C.8.) informed a representative of The Dominion that the statement from Christchurch was in. error. • It was not intended, ho said ,that thoso who failed to register in accordance with the Act would be allowed lo t'scapo from the consequences of thfir default.
