MORE PLAYGROUNDS WANTED.
— frA BROOKLYN AGITATION. v A very large number of people responded last evening to tho invitation of, tho Brooklyn Ratepayers' Association fo attend a meeting at the Baptist Church for the purpose of considering the question of arranging for an interview with the Wellington City Council with reference to tho proposal to construct a recreation ground on about six acres of land between the Brooklyn tramway and the Ohiro Road. Mr. J. C. Brown presided. During tho discussion it was pointed out that whilst Thorndon had a suitable recreation ground in Anderson Park, Wellington East had tho Basin Reserve, Wellington South Newtown Park and Duppa Street, there was no similar recreation space for the 5000 peoplo who lived in Brooklyn, and in the congested area in the vicinity of Upper Willis Street. One of the speakers frankly averred that if sometiling definite were not done to secure to the city adequate grounds for recreation, the accommodation of the existing areas would bo so severely taxed that some of the junior competitions in cricket and football would require to be cut out.
It was resolved that as large and as representative a deputation as possible should wait on the City Council at 7.30 tomorrow evening and that the committee which has the movement in hand should take active steps to secure the co-opera-tion of all the local sports bodies. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, MJ\, and Mr. R. A.Wright, M.P., who were both present at tho meeting, were appointed to act as tho speakers at the deputation to-morrow evening.
