INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISTS.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Journalists was. held on Saturday night, and was attended by 15 members. The adoption of tho annual report and balance-sheet was moved by tho retiring president, Mr. F. J. Earle*. The receipt of .£2 16s. 3d. from tho Auckland branch was acknowledged. The editor of the "Journalist" (Mr. F. J. Earle) reported that if all outstanding subscriptions vere paid there should be a-very small credit balance after the payment of all expenses of issuing the first six numbers. Several members criticised the paper in certain particulars, but all spoke appreciatively of tho work of tho editor. Mr. J. J. Grealish was elected president without opposition, Mr. F. J. Earle having withdrawn his nomination. Mr. Grealish presided during tho remainder of the meeting. . •, Messrs. S. Saunders (Christchurch), E. Schwabe (Wellington), and T. L. Mills (Feilding)-were elected vice-presidents, and Mr. C. Weston secretary. By-law 29 was amended so as to enlarge the constitution of the council by adding two delegates from each branch. Rule 7 of the constitution was amended to reduce the time within which notices of motion may be given for the aunu.il meeting from five weeks to three weeks. By-law 36, which deals with the liability of members to be excluded or suspended by resolution of the council, was amended to give the branch an opportunity of being heard. . "After transacting fnrther business, .the moeting adjourned until 4 p.m. to-day at the office of the "Evening Post."
