Several members of tlio A. and 11.I 1 . General Committee reported - to Saturday's meeting on the success of the cooperative experiments, says our Fending correspondent. .Mr. J. .11. Perrett said ho had experimented with two wheals given him by Mr. G. Ba.vlis, of the Agricultural' Department, and one variety— tlio Jonathan—had averaged G1 bushels to tho aero the second year ho tried it. From this result he gathered the Jonathan was well suited to tho Sandou country. Sir. H. J. Booth and Mr. E. Short spoke of the success they had attained in the experiments with lucerne, and Mr. Short emphasised the. valuable returns he liftd had with pumpkins, for feeding both sheep and cattle. Farmers from several parts of the district undertook to. carry on experiments during tho coming season.

A number of farmers between Itahotu and Opunake have found that.shelter for their stock in the winter is almost as necessary as food, and are planting boxtliorn in conscajienco.

COMPARISON OF SPRAYINGS,

AUSTRALIAN RESULTS. The Inspector under tho Fruit Pes's Act (Mr. .11. A. Mills) says tho Goulbum correspondent ot' the Sydney "Herald" amused hist season with Mr. E. Gale, of Mimiinell, that as an experiment he should spray trees with lime and sulphur, scaleeide, and red oil. Cutting.* from tho treated trees were recently sent to the Government Entomologist. Tho following was the reply:—Twigs sprayed with linio and sulphur.—Mussel scale: Greatbulk dead; here and there a female scale covering a mass of live ejgs present. A few living woolly aphis were found on the twigs. Twigs wi-h Sau Jose scale sprayed with scaleeide: great bulk dead: scattered live ones throughout on the various twigs. Twigs with mussel scale spray, fd with red oil: Apparently dead. Sealo very thick on twigs; but among the hundreds examined 110 live eggs were noticed under scales. It is to be noted that most, of the scales are dead at this time of the year, and the next year's progeny is represented by eggs.
