Experiments have been carried out bv an Ashburton Tesidcnt recently with tho object of exterminating or reducing tlio gray grub pest. Holling- and tho uso of Juno had been recommended at times bv Departmental exports, but in spito o'f practical tests tho grubs havo been found living on and multiplying. A fortnight ago tho southern farmer in question placed a number of grubs in a tin containiii" a small quantity of earth, but on tho till wing opened on Thursday last tlio grubs were all alive. Other experiments havn been tried, such as qnicklimo and placing the grabs in water and allowing it to freeze in a solid block,"but when put out in tho son for a few minutes they soon recovered their activity.
