At a meeting of tho Wairarapa. A. and 3?. Association on Friday a letter was received from tho Wellington. Racing Club fitating that tho club was prepared to .inako tho same donation to tho society; as last year, namely, £10.—It was decided to accept the offer with t'hanks, ,and allot tho prize 9 ciactly tho same ;as last year. Messrs. J. O. Blatchford and T. P. ;<3iidwood sent donations of £2 2s. and J2l Is. respectively, and, on tho motion •of Mr. Eagle, a very hearty voto of thanks was accorded to tho Wellington facing Club and tho other two donors. Mr. Booth reported that, considerable discussion had taken placo at the Agricultural Conferenco en the subject of rorinounts for tho array. Slajor-Goncrat rGodley had been .communicated with and jhe had stated that tho ideal army recount was not under ltj hands and not [over 15.2 hands.—lt was decidcd to alter (t'ho army remount class in tlio society's 'programme to faJl in with Major-General fbodloy s suggestion. Experiments have been carried out bv an Ashburton Tesidcnt recently with tho object of exterminating or reducing tlio gray grub pest. Holling- and tho uso of Juno had been recommended at times bv Departmental exports, but in spito o'f practical tests tho grubs havo been found living on and multiplying. A fortnight ago tho southern farmer in question placed a number of grubs in a tin containiii" a small quantity of earth, but on tho till wing opened on Thursday last tlio grubs were all alive. Other experiments havn been tried, such as qnicklimo and placing the grabs in water and allowing it to freeze in a solid block,"but when put out in tho son for a few minutes they soon recovered their activity.
