At the Marine Court inquiry into the loss of the scow Whangaroa, the Judge in returning a. verdict, declared that instead of Captain I'earson being to blame he was to be highly commended. He did well to get tho crew ashore. The members of. tho crow were also worthy of great praise for t'ha way they worked together. Tho Whangaroa, a 6cow of 132 tons, becamo waterlogged during a passage from Mokau to Sydney in June last, and had to be abandoned.; The vessel left Mokau on May 31 with a cargo of timber, and met with exceptionally heavy weather. Tho crew remained on board until tho top of the deck cabin, tho only place of safety, was stove in. Just after this Lord Howe Island was sighted, and a landing effected on June 2 J. The vessel was owned by Messrs. E. D. Pike and Co.
