RUGBY FOOTBALL. OMENTAL AND ST. JAMES TO-DAY. The meeting between St. James and Oriental—tho two leading teams in tho sonior championship set down for this afternoon. The record of two teams during tho second round of the contests point to tho gamo. being very evenly contested. In the Oriental ranks will be found Roberts, M'Leod, Kinvig, Matheson, Gillespie, and Perry—a very strong combination; whilo tho hope of tho St. James includes tho two lkibertscs, Cook, Crewes, Hekita, Hills, Mollitt, King, Donaldson, Manning —all well-known to followers of tho eport. With two such teams of fast, light forwards, and rather clever backs, tho best that there is in the Rujjby gamo should be seen. Mr. F. C. Atkinson will referee. Wellington and Victoria College meet on No. 2 ground. As a curtain-raiser tho representative schools match between Wellington and Manawatu will bo played at 1.30. At Petono another excellent game should result from the meeting between tho local iifteen and Poneke. SCHOOL EUGBT. WELLINGTON V. MANAWATU. By way of a curtain-raiser to tho Orion-tal-St. James match at Athletic Park, tho inter-district school match, Wellington v. Manawatu. will commence at 1.30 p.m. The teams are as follow: — Wellington:—Full-back: Mackoil (Clyde Quay). Three-quarters: Scott (Newtown), Anderson (Clyde Quay). Olson (Maranui). Five-eighths: Niccol (Petone),. Walker (Maranni). Half: Melior (Terrace). Wingforward: J. Macaulay (Terrace). Forwards : Polo (Hutt), A. Macaulay _ (Terrace), Dentico (Mount Cook), M'Carlie (To Aro), Watson (To Aro), Hansen (Terrace), Stepbcnson (Maranui). Emergencies: Wilson (Mount Cook). Linley (Mount Cook). Manawaiu:-Full-baok, Hodder. Threequarters : Stewart, Evans, and Stewart. Five-eighths: Mexted. Half: CliildsWings: Bono and Dane. Forwards: Horsriell, Mellor, Hcald, Bergcnsen, Dilks, Da.no, and Wheeler. Tho visiting team arrived in town last evening, and wore hospitably entertained at Godbor's Rooms. Cuba Street, by tho Wellington Public Schools Rugby Union. Among those present were Mr. Robert T.eo, chairman of the Wellington Education Board; Mr. S. Brown, chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union; Mr. J. H. Gray (Campbell Street School, Palmerston North), manaeer of the visiting team; Mr. H. S. Stewart (Lytton Street School, Fcildiiis); Mr. J. D. Adtkon (Campbell Street School. Pulmerston North); and Messrs. J. C. Webb, and A. C. Blako (city headmasters). Mr. Robert Darroch, president of tho Wellington Schools Rugby Union, was in the chair, and cordially welcomed the visitors to Wellington. He encouraged the boys to play the gamo in a clean spirit, ami ciprepsed the indebtedness of tho Schools Rugby Union to the Wellington Rugby Union, tho Wellington Referees' Association, and the Headmasters' Association for the assistance afforded in the arrangement of the schools competitions. ■ Mr. Robert Lee entertained tho gathering with interesting reminiscences of the early days of primary education, and of his •experiences as a school inspector over a very scattered and half-civilised district.
