An Old Petone Resident. • Yesterday morning, at Petone, the death took place of" Mrs. Arcus, the wife of Mr. James Arcus, of the firm of Bailey and Arcus, limber merchants. The deceased lady was an old resident of the district and was well-known and highly respected. Fellding Notes, ' On Saturday there was a large attend-1 anco at the Aorangi Golf Links when the pairs who tied in tha mixed foursome match played off for the prize, the result again being a tie.- Mrs. Montgomery andMiss •Shannon gave afternoon tea. Among those ' playing .wore: Mesdames -Orut, Harding, Moutgomerio, Misses Shannon, Bruce, Wyatt, Bur-roll, . Prior, Moore, O'Halloran, Kirton,' Messrs. Prior, Hood/ Hawke, Parkes, Lewis, Grut, Harding, and othors. Mrs. Giesen (Auckland) is visiting Mrs. W. B. Giescu. Mrs, H. B. Giesen has returned to her home. _ , . ~ i An enjoyable evening was given by Mrs. and Miss Prior at their pretty residenco recently. Among the guests were: Mrs. Grut, Misses O'Halloraxi, Bruce, Long, Shannon, Kirton, Moore, Wyatt, Messrs. Prior, Long, Goodbehere, Shannon, and others.
Captain Geo. Holford, master of the Union Company's steamer Tofua, left by that vessel as a passenger on a holiday trip to the Islands on. Tuesday. Mrs. Holford accompanied him. Napier passengers, who left by tho Tofua on Tuesday from Auckland on a trip to Sydney and tho Islands, included Mr. and Mrs. Winstanley, Mr. Winstanley, jun.,. and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Dicken. The marriage of Dr. M'Evody to Miss Kate Campbell, youngest daughter of Mr. Felix Campbell, takes place to-day at St. Patricks Church, Greymonth. Miss Renee Queree is giving a concert in the : Opera House ou October 2, aud a meeting to arrange details is being held in the Dresden rooms to-morrow evening. Dr. and Miss Leatha'm, of New Plymouth, and Miss Leatham left Auckland on Tuesday ou a trip to Sydney and the Islands. • Mrs. H. l''rost has gone on a visit to Auckland. - Mr. and Miss Adams, of Nelson, sailed' from Auckland on Tuesday on a visit to Sydney and the Islands. "'Mrs. Winter Hall was;among-the pSisongers who arrived from Sydney by the TJlimaroa yesterday. Nurse Brown,.of the Masterton;Hospital staff, has resigned, and will take up a position on the Wellington Hospital nursing staff. Mrs. Eernan (Napier) has gone on a visit to Australia. Sir William and Lady Russell will return to New Zealand in November.
