THE WELLINGTON PROVINCE, The following table shows the areas under grain and pulso crops, aud green ami root crops in tlio Wellington province, as at the taking of the last agricultural ecu. ills:—
Totals 48,208 57,283 105,581 In tho following cases where tho areas for Wellington only aro given the totals for 1008-9 are in parentheses:—Wheats Areas for threshing,-0401 (GO0O) acres; areas for chaffing, etc., G42 (74) acres. Oats: Areas for threshing, 15,458 (19,61!)) acres; for chaffing, otc, 19,700 (27,275) acres. Barley: Areas for threshing, 1289 (1C39) acres; for chaffing, etc., 054 (357) acres. Eye: Aroas for threshing," 476 (312) acres; areas for foeding down, etc., 171 (2M) acres. Maize: Areas for threshing, 481 (182) news; for feeding down, etc., 978 (93) acres. Peas: For thresliiug, 078 (604) acres; for feeding down, etc., 167 (32) acres. Beans: For threshing, 364 (388) acres; for feeding down, etc., 58 (8) acres. Vetches: For threshing, 30 (23) acres; for feeding down, etc., 22 (9) acres. Potatoes I'in acres), 23,103 (25,521). Mangolds, (in acres), 1801) (10431. Rape, and kale (in acres), 28,979 (32,625). Beet (in acres), 07 (81). Carrots (in acres), 297 (195). LIVE STOCK. INTERESTING STATISTICS. The last collection of tho agricultural and pastoral statistics was made by the Department of Agriculture in October, 1908. No collection was made either in 1909 or in 1910; but in April last a return, in connection with the general cou6us, was taken under tho provisions of the Census aud Statistics Act, 1910. The following table show the number of horses, cattle, and pigs. An interim return of sheep shows tho largo decrease of 515,035:-Honcs.-April, 1911, 404.281; October, 1908, 30:),259: increase, 41,025. . Cattle-April, 1911, 2,020,171; October, 1908, 1.773,326: increase, 246,815. Pigs.—April, 1911, 315,75tj October, 190S, 215,092: increase, 103.C62. Sheep-April. 1911, 23,754,5351 April, 1910, 24,209,620: decrease, 515,035. Tho number of horses, cattle, and pigs in tho Wellington province is:—Horses, 60,458; cattle, (including dairy, cows), 428,244; dairy cows (in milk and dry), 114,741; pigs, 56,575.
