FARMERS' UNION.
PALMEHSTON BRANCH MEETS. The monthly meeting nf (ho comraitteo of Hie I'nlnien-toii branch of Iho banners' I'liion was held on Saturday. Mr. J. lial:illie presided, ami there were also present: ife=rs..'L. R. BryaJit, Jl. ,1. A. Barber, A. Buchanan, A. Farmer, Captain Hewitt, and J. AViugate. The replies received from members with reference to holding a dinner or a "social" were, not considered sufficient to warrant holding any function at present, iind ths matter was consequently held over. The chairman reported that a very interesting address had recently been, (jiven iit Ivairiiiiga by Mr. l!ait, veterinary surgeon, ami had been much appreciated. The- Now Poisons Bill was discussed, and the proposed restrictions (especially regarding sheep dips, which were used for many other purposes than dipping sheep) were strongly opposed. A resolution, was passed that the. New Poisons Bill be opposed. The Shearers' Accommodation Amendment Act, introduced by Mr. M'Laren, M.P., was gone into. Many of the propositi regulations for the comfort of shearers were considered' as absurd. Ono member remarked it only wanted a piano and ambulance to be added to make the thing complete. A circular from the hon. secretary of Iho T. E. Taylor Memorial Fund, invfting contributions to the. fund, was received. Copies of the Dominion Conference report and the shed hands' award were Teceived for distribution. Mr. R. Gardner was unavoidably absent, and the proposed address on "Land Valuing" will therefore be given by him atltho next meeting.
