POTATO PROSPECTS.
The. high prices which have ruled for potatoes at the end of the reason of late vears, inninly a=; a result of the blight, has tempted many grower? to hold large stecks right up to the end of the season ami tho result is that there are large offerings and consequently cheap prices at present. Now potatoes have already figured on the. local market, but none were on offer yesterday. A well-known merchant stated yesterday that the country is practically full of old potatoes, particularly in the South Island. He did not think there was tho remotest chance that they would be much dearer than <it present (yesterday's prices were l=. G:|. per cwt). The new season's product had already commenced in a small way, niul in a fow weeks new potatoes would bo cpm'ins in'froin all quarter*.
