As soon as lie was back in Buckingham Palace after the Coronation, tho King performed'his Hrst public act as a crownMi monarch. It was quite appropriately (in act which honoured and crowned the lifework of another "seafaring man"— Br. Orcnfell. of Labrador. By pressing an electric button the. King laid tho foundation stono iof the new Seamen's and Fishermen's Institute, to be called by his name,-nt St. John's, Newfoundland. The building will.cost MM' and will bo paid fov by tho American Clrenfell Mission and oiir own Koyal Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. Queen Mary, the Prince of Wales, and other members oi' the iloyal Family were present at the ceremony, and the King afterwards cabled a message to St. John's, expressing his high appreciation of the admirable work boiu<; done under the direction of Dr. Grenfell, "from ffhoiu, o;i the occvion of his lust visit to England, 1 learned (lie details of tho arduous lives of those of my people who arc engaged in Hie Newfoundland fisheries." The, institute is intondrd to provide n haven of refuge far the 8-5,000 fishermen and sailors entering the port of St. John's annually.
