Kummer (Hasterton) and I'.- Kmumcr (Lower Valley) was unfinished,-'and is lo bo submitted to Mr. Mason, of Wellington, fov adjudication. There was a very large audience nt the concert given in Murray's Hall last evening by tho pupils of Mr. Gerald Bramon. Among thosa who contributed "items was Miss Ava Symoncls, tho young lady violiuist from Hnstingsi who recently accompanied the Sheffield Choiv through.' the Dominion. .' Tho annual meeting of tho Mastcrton Homing Pigeon Club was held last evening, Mr. F. B. ltojson prodding over a good attendance. Tho annual report, which showed a credit balance : ot .£4 13s. was adopted. Tho following officers were elected for the year:—Patron, Mr. H , . Clarkson; president, "Mr. J. B, Sutherland; vics-prcsident, Mr. C. Perry; treasurer, Mr. F. B. Kosson; secretary, Mr, A. Miller; committee, Messrs. \V. Honr, W. Gomlay, W. Drake, R; M. Wilton, and. P. .Gilbert... Tliree new members were elected. Mr. J. Paytoii was elected' a life member of the club. Votes of thanks to the outgoing officers, donors of ■trophies, and committee terminated the meeting. Tho Hod Star Football Club held its annual "social" this evening. The joint secretaries (Messrs. J. Connclkand C. Corbett) had tho whole of tho arrangements complete, and tho function proved verj successful. Arrangements were made last' night fot a championship chess tournament io be played in the Wairarapa. Tho winner is to be the nominee of the district for tho congress which is to be held at Napier next Easter. A resolution is to be submitted at n special meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association on Saturday, August 2C. authorising the borrowing of a sum of ,£4OOO, at 4f per cent on its Solway property. This is for the purpose of paying off the-.overdraft' at tho Bank of Australasia. ; Old settlers of the district assert that while the grass grub has wrought considerable- damage among tho pastures this reason, it is not nearly as destructive ae it was some years back. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club has decided to open its season on Thursday, October 5. Tliß nflicors of the Slock Department in Masferton aro exercising vigilar.co in preventing the spread of corse and other noxious weeds. Notice has been served on certain owners to destroy. No clue has yet been received as to the whereabouts of tho missing uian James Kingdon.
