THE ELECTORAL CENSUS.
COUNTRY DISTRICT'S. Tho Acting-Premier gives on the Paiw liamentary question paper (ho following account of (he electoral census in the country districts:— "'The use of the householder's schedulo, which necessitated the enrolment officers making two visits to each house, was coniinod to city and adjoining electorales, as the. rolls in these districts rejiuirwl very considerable correction. Id (lie four centres there has Ijeen a renaming of many of. the streets and a renumber, nig of the nouses since last general decdon, also a considerable number of re> movals, with the result that the city rolls had to be thoroughly revised. A complcto enumeration of electors, sue.h as is obtained by useof a. householder's selfdole, was not considered necessary in country electorates, where ponu.ation is larjjpi? stationary. In tiro more settled parts of country electorates, however, a house-to-house canvass necessitating only on« visit was mado by enrolment officers for the purpose of enrolling electors and obtaining' informalidn as to removal!;, etc. This house-to-house, canvass was not extended to sparsely settled parts, but such lecniitios were provided for by depositing a copy of the roll at tlio nearest nost nr telegraph office, together with a supply of enrolment forms, and exhibiting there a printed notice drawing attention to the facilities given for enrolment. In such places (he postmasters were directed to novo steps token to have nil qualified persons in their (respective district enrolled, and to advise the Regi«lrar\of all those who had left: the district sinco the lost compilation of (he roll."
