ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
i .3 CUBA ST. STABBING—FATAL END. Patrick Haydcn, who was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday night suffering -from a knife wound in his abdomen, died yesterday. The circumstances, according to the information in the possession of tho police, are that at about ten minutes to eleven on Wednesday night the deceased was standing in a doorway in. Cuba Street. Ho was seen to stagger out 011 to tlje street. Ho was picked up by two men, and it was found, or rather it was supposed, that ho had stabbed himself. He was taken to Dr. Jtackin, who ordered his removal to tho hospital, whither ho was sent.in.an ambulance conveyance.
Deceased admitted to Constable Challis that he had stabbed himself, as he was afraid he would get into trouble. He had been drinking for some time. The knife with which lie had stabbed himself was found in the doorway. Deceased was married, but had been living opart from his wife for some time.
There will be an inquest at 3 p.m. today 1 . ,
STRANGLED ON A FENCE. IBy TclcEraph— Press Association;!; Dunedin, August 5. Thomas Burgess, aged 62 years, died in a: remarkable manner at Cavcrsnam yesterday. Ho was seen loaning over a fence, and when investigation was made it was found he was dead. Deceased had been working in the country, and came homo on Tuesday for*a holiday. At the inquest a verdict was returned that death was due to strangulation, deceased's neck having been caught in tho top of the fence, whilst ho was soizod with a fit of cramn. There .were absolutely no signs of alcohol. Tho caso is 0 most unusual one.
DROWNING ACCIDENT IN FIJI. Auckland, August 5. A private cablegram from Fiji reports tho death by drowning of Alfred N. Strong, i) young Aucklander, who left for the Islands a few months ago,
FATAL FALL, BUT HOW? Auckland, August 5. Captain Andrew Sioano fell over a cliff while walking in his garden at llorno Bav, and sustained injuries from which lie died in the hospital. It is not known how the accident occurred.
OLD AGE PENSIONER'S DEATH. ' Grcymouth, August 5. \n old age pensioner named Hcnrr Diamond was found drowned in a crecb at llunanga this morning.
