HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) a On Saturday evening three men employed at Wainui-o-mata when passing through Lower Hutt returning home in a trap had (it is alleged) a difference, and forcible measures wero employed. Tho outcome was the admittance to the hospital yesterday of Charles Henry Davidson, a Swede, with a dislocated shoulder, Dr. Mirams having previously rendered first aid. ■
The initial annual "social" in connection with tho Hutt and Petoue branches of tho Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners will bo held in St. Augustine's Hall, Petone, this week. The fancy costume football match, Mascotteo Pictures v. Palace Pictures will tako placo ,at the Petoue Eecreatdon Ground on Wednesday afternoon. Tho proceeds arc in aid of the Ambulance Van Fund. An old man named Harry Grand, aged Gi, was brought before Messrs. Chapman ami Wilkin;, J.P.'s, at Ilutt on Saturday morning, charged with being a rogue ami a vagabond. Accused pleaded not guilty.' The police stated that Grand was living in an old hut at Taita, and u\is a nuisance to the neighbourhood, and had been convicted ton times within the last three years for various offonecs. Besides, he had done no work for a long time. The Bench, addressing accused, raid that it would be an act of humanity to send him to gaol, as he would not stop in a home. A sentence of six months' imprisonment was imposed.
