CHRISTCHURCH NORTH ELECTION
FIXED FOE AUGUST 17. (By TcleEranh-Prn=n Association.! Christchurch, August 4. Tho writ for the Christchurch- North election was received by tho Returning Officer this morning, but owing to its having been issued in Wellington the day before the rolls closed (yesterday) it was understood that the rolls would be open today, and a few peoplo who intended to enrol to-day were disappointed'in consequence. The election has been fixed for Thursday, August 17. If a second ballot is necessary it will bo held a week later. Nominations close at noon on Monday, August 7. So far none have been received. Three candidates, however, are definitely announced. They are:— Mr. J. T>. Hall (Opposition). Tlio Rev. L. M. Isitt (Independent). Mr. L. K. Wilson (Socialist). So far no Government candidate is announced. At a meeting of the Labour Representation Committee to-night tho Rev. L. M. Isitt, candidate for Christchurch North, was present, and briefly addressed tne meeting. He outlined his political platform, and answered questions. lie was accorded a vote of thanks. After he left tho committee discussed the question of contesting the seat, and it was unanimously decided to take no action in connection with the by-election. This means that members of the Labour party will have a free hand. Tho committee decided to run a candidate for the seat on the City Council rendered vacant bv the election of Councillor J. J. Dougali o> Mayor.
