Tho first ten of tho orchards, prepared and planted by tho Department of Agriculture' at Waerenga, uro now beiiig offered for selection. - This marks n,n important phafo in tho development of the scheme for providing ready-mado orchards for settlers desirous of taking up fruit culture. The orchards will ho obtainablo on the optional system tenure. Tho ten orchards vary from twenty-one acres to forty-eight acres in extent. Tho tiuio for receiving applications for these orchards closed to-day, and, as was expected, the orchards were eagerly fought after, over 70 applications l>eing received, A few more may como by post.
