Ball at Pahiatua, It is a little over three weeks ago since the married ladies and bachelors of Pahiatua decided to combine and give a balL The function was fixed for Friday night last, and was a brilliant success. Over two hundred people were dancing in the Drill Hall, those including visitors from Wellington, Masterton. Woodrille, Palmerston North, Dannevirke, and intervening districts. The hall had been transformed bv the arduous work of the committee into a thing of beauty—crimson and green being the predominating colours in the decorative scheme. An excellent supper was provided, the tables being beautifully decorated with spring flowers from Auckland. The music was supplied by Hanley's Orchestra, from Palmerston. Among those present were: Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P.. and Mrs. .Fisher (Wellington), the Misses Bolton (21. Nnnmng, Hartgill (Dannevirke), Tnlloch (3), Wakeman, Egsleston (Woodville). An "At Home." Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Miles was Hie hostess at a very enjoyablo At Home which was held at her residence in Hobson Street, and was attended by a large number of friends. The rooms were decorated with lovely flowers, the table in the dining-room (where tea was served) having been arranged with delicate pink begonias. Chocolate was served m_ another room, and Aliss Miles was assisted in dispensing tea by Mis Ethel Nathan, and Miss Nelson. A string ' band, stationed at the top of the staircase, played delightfully during the afternoon. Ramblers' Hockey Club Dance. The annual dance of the Ramblers' Hockey Club was held in the New Century llall last evening, and was largely attended. The main room of the building was brightly decorated with ropes and festoons of lycopodium, starred with scarlet flowers, relics of the race ball decorations, whilo red and white curtains partlyenclosed the stage, comfortably furnished as a sitting-out place for those not dancing. Tho supper tables in the room above were arranged' with pot-palms and blue and white ribbons, the colours of the club. Among 'those present were Mrs. Nathan, wearing black silk, relieved with white; Mrs. Hislop, shell pink frock; Mrs. Cameron, blue ninon with oriental embroideries; Miss Philp, tunic frock of white fisher.net over satin, bordered with emorald ba,nds; Miss Cameron (secretai'y), green silk; Miss Cameron, white muslin trimmed with lace; Miss Quilter, cerise satin veiled with mole-coloured ninon; Miss Williams, pink satin with panels of jewelled net; Miss Lindsay, cream satin, with silver embroideries; Miss Wilson, pink charmeus3; Miss Nathan, black velvet with gold embroideries; Miss Fisher, pink ninon trimmed with lace; Miss Armit. black velvet with Maltese lace berthe; Miss Toohill, white charmeuse with crystal fringe; Miss O'Shea, crenm silk; Miss Dimant, mauve ninon; Miss Hill, whito satin with chiffon overdress and crystal trimming; Miss J. Miller, black velvet with silver- braid; Miss Wilson, pink charmeuse; Miss Patterson, blue froek; Miss Cooper, black velvet with Maltose lace.

Mis? noynolds, who has been spending somo weeks in Wellington, returns to Duneilin to-day. The engagement is announced of Miss Ailcen Lingard, youngest dalighler of Air. William Linguard ('"EI Xido," Wesley Roadi, to Mr. Bertram Leonard Taylor, of West Setnn, Edinburgh. Mr. Leonard Taylor, who has lately come to this country, and who is already well known in golfing circles here, is a nephew of the late Hon.. J: W. Leonard, K.C. The engagement is announced of Miss Beryl Hansen, daughter of Mrs. .1. Drysdale, Levin, to Mr. F. Davies, of Kopularoa. Mrs. Rawson and Mrs. J. W. Abbott, who liave been away on a. six months' visit'to England, returned to Wellington by the Sydney boat yesterday. The many friends of Mrs. Tuckey, over whose illness they have been greatly con•cerned, will be very pleased to know that she is gradually regaining strength. Mr. and Mrs. Goring Jolinston have returned to Palmerston North. A quiet wedding was celebrated yesterday at tho Presbyterian Feilding, when Mr. Walter Adsett, of Colyton, was married to Miss Mildred Rose Barry, of Feilding. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. Budd. Miss H. A. Adsett attended the bride as bridesmaid, and Mr. G. Barry was the best man.
