The friends of Herr Richter, of Vienna, who was captured by brigands last month near Salonika, oiler ,£3OOO for his ransom. The brigands demand .£50,000. Tho Turkish troops soundly flogged the inhabitants of the surrounding villages in order to learn the brigands' whereabouts, but failed to gain any information. Herr Edward Richter, who occupies a position with the well-known optical firm of Carl Zeiss, of Jena, was captured by brigands towards tho end of May in the woods of the Olympus range, near Salonika. Herr Richter was travelling on behalf of the geographical societies of Jena and Berlin for the purpose of taking stereoscopic views. He had two gendarmes with him. Two years ago Herr Richter made the same journey, but then had ten soldiers with him.
