MUD SLIDE AND AN OIL STOEE. Some months ago a big slide of loose iarth and mnTlcck Streamed down the hill »bove the cliffs at Kaiwarrn, and invaded the sheds of the Vacuum Oil Company, which face tho flutt Road between the eiid of _ the Esplanade and Kaiwarra townHhip. The recent heavy rains have occasioned a recurrence of the trouble. On Monday night a large mass of soft rock poured across the old disused road behind tho sheds, and toppling over the bank pushed in the end of. the big shed in ■which tho company's stock of lubricating on 13 stored. Yesterday morning the place was swimming in mud and water and there were indications that some of tho barrels of oil had been burst by the mass from the hillside, and that damage had l>een done to the stock. Tho manager Mr. T. H. Hamilton, stated that ho estimated that some 210 barrels had been affected by the mud-slide, but ho could not then give an estimate of the damage done. All day yesterday a stream of water from tho hillside was rushing over the hank and through the shed on to the Hutt Road. The work of salvaging the oil was in progress throughout the day*
