LIBERTY-HAVE WE ANY?

PASSAGE ,IN COURT. Mr. E. G. Jellicoe was addressing the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon regarding a "breach of award" case in which he was engaged. "It surprises me," he said, "that there are any employers left in this country, which boasts—brazenly boasts—of equality of justice. The species will soon be exterminated. ■ "The cable man told us tho other'day," continued Mr. Jellicoe, "that the dear old Motherland had been told that she didn't know what true liberty was—that she had never tasted true liberty." Dr. M'Arthur, S.M.: "She lives on a good old wholesome diet!" Mr. Jellicoo: "Sho has been told that she doesn't know what liberty is, and yet tho person who uttered.that is a person who assisted in the compilation of this piece of tyrannic legislation. (Ho tapped his finger on a volume of labour law.) The greatest slaves in tbo world are tho people of this country " Mr. M'Arthur: "Don't you think we had 'bettor'go on with tho case, Mr. Jellicoe?"
