FERRIES FOR THE STATE. m , „ Sydney, July 22. The Ferry Company has offered to sell tho Government the Milsom's Point and Lareuder Bay services. A BUILDING BOOM. Sydney, July 22. As evidence of tlio activity of the building trade in New South Wales, it is stated that last year over fifty million feet of timber was imported, including a large quantity from New Zealand. It is expected that this year the import will reach sixty-five million feet. STRANDING OF THE WAIPARA. Brisbane, July 22. The action of the British India Steam Navigation Company, claiming .£IOO,OOO damages against the Government for alleged negligence of a pilot in connection with the stranding of the stumer Waipara, has been settled by tho payment of a comparatively small sum. CLOUD-BURST IN CALIFORNIA. New York, July 23. San Francisco reports that a cloudburst has occurred at Death Valley, following nfter intense heat. The deluge was the heaviest for thirty years. One mining camp wns almost entirely obliterated, and several mine bunk-houses were washed away. GALE AT SYDNEY. Sydney, July 23. A strong south-easterly gale is blowing, with heavy rains and rough seas.
